On Tuesday, the first day of the second round of the UEFA Champions League matches took place. During the eight matches in groups A-D, a total of 31 goals were scored, with the most productive teams being in group B, scoring 12 goals.
The only surprise of the day came from group A, where Piraeus's "Olympiacos" defeated "Liverpool" by a minimal margin at home. In another group match, last year's finalist "Monaco" secured their first victory of the season by comfortably defeating La Coruna's "Deportivo" at home.
There were again interesting events in group B, with both matches ending in equal results once more, with the home teams winning 4-2 this time. Kiev's "Dynamo" continued to impress, defeating Leverkusen's "Bayer" at home and securing the top position in the group. Madrid's "Real" broke their streak of bad luck, as they managed to come from behind in the second half to defeat the resistance of "Roma" players.
In group C, the favorites secured their second victories: Munich's "Bayern," with Roy Makaay scoring three times, crushed Amsterdam's "Ajax," while Turin's "Juventus" once again defeated their opponents by a one-goal margin, this time being "Maccabi" from Tel Aviv.
In group D, a total of eight goals were scored between "Manchester United" and "Fenerbahce," with 18-year-old Wayne Rooney, who made a sensational debut, scoring a hat-trick. In another group match, "Lyon" managed to defeat Prague's "Sparta" team away.
