The champions of Portugal and winners of the Champions League will have to appear before the UEFA Disciplinary Committee to investigate an incident that took place before the match against a London team.
The incident occurred during the warm-up before the match, when the former Porto and current Chelsea coach greeted his former team's fans. One of these fans attacked Jose Mourinho. The match referee Herbert Fandel recorded this incident in his report.
Usually, the home team is responsible for the behavior of their fans, but the away team can also be penalized for inappropriate behavior by their fans.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is inclined to downplay the importance of this incident. The Chelsea coach personally addressed UEFA and asked them not to penalize Porto fans.
On October 1, UEFA confirmed that they had received the official match report and stated that Porto will likely have to answer for this incident. In his letter to UEFA, Mourinho asked not to penalize Porto and argued that the behavior of one or a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of Porto fans.
"This was a minor incident compared to what I have received from Porto fans. It would be a shame if this minor incident tarnished their reputation," Mourinho said.
During this match, three Porto fans were removed from the stadium - one for attacking Mourinho, and the other two for inappropriate behavior.
