"Manchester City" defender Daniel van Buyten suffered a serious groin injury during training on Thursday and will not be able to play until the end of the season.
The Belgian national team player, who has been loaned to "Manchester City" from the "Marseille" team since February, has played only six matches for his current club, as he joined only this summer.
"We have lost a very important player," said the "Manchester City" manager. "It is very painful that this defender will not be able to represent our club until the end of the season."
Van Buyten will also miss the upcoming national team match with Germany.
This misfortune struck the club at a really bad time. Currently, the club is in 16th place in the league table, just three points above the relegation zone.
Despite a significant victory against "Manchester United" 4-1, "Manchester City" has already suffered 13 defeats this season. On Monday, the club suffered a painful loss against "Leeds United" 2-1, who are competitors for survival. In this match, D. van Buyten was sent off the field.
The club's head coach K. Kiganas will also not be able to help his team in the match against "Fulham" team this Sunday. Doctors advised him to do so because the coach has back problems.
"We will miss him in these matches, but we have to accept that he is not there and fight as we would with him," said K. Kiganas' assistant.
