The central match of the eighth round of the English Premier League is clear. The match is already intriguing football fans all over England with one question - can "Liverpool" defeat the wealthy "Chelsea" army?
Clubs
"Chelsea"
It's hard to say if R. Abramovich considers the start of the Premier League season (14 points in 6 matches) good. The millionaire's investments in this team, which was quite mediocre a few years ago, have exceeded all expectations. From the old team, only fragments remain, which no longer form the foundation of the current team.
The new coach Jose Mourinho has changed the philosophy of "Chelsea". One goal conceded in six matches proves that the Portuguese is focused on defense. However, the recent Premier League matches should not delight the "Blues" fans awaiting victories.
The drawn away match with [opponent] and the home match with [opponent] show that the attacking mechanism is not working as it should in a team that has received million-dollar investments. After these two matches, there was another not so great match. "Chelsea" defeated [opponent] 1-0, but the victory was brought by a late newcomer Didier Drogba's goal in the 82nd minute.
The club performs better in the UEFA Champions League. There the team is successful at scoring goals - they scored six goals in two matches. In the recent round, the London club easily defeated the defending champion "Porto" 3-1 at home, but losing its true strength. This victory should at least somewhat boost the players' confidence in their abilities. If successful, "Chelsea" could become a machine that is difficult to stop.
"Liverpool"
"Liverpool" is not shining this season. One of the most famous English clubs of all time has not been able to secure two victories in a row this season. It seemed that three goals scored against [opponent] last weekend could lead to a new and powerful start for "Liverpool". Such thoughts were fueled by the excellent performance of the new club acquisition Xabi Alonso. The young midfielder coped well with the duties that emerged after Steven Gerrard's injury. He not only broke down the opponent's attacks but also sharpened the team's offense with accurate and sharp passes. Unfortunately, the Champions League match with "Olympiacos" brought fans back down to earth. The 1-0 loss greatly undermined the players' confidence in their abilities.
One of the most pressing issues for R. Benitez's proteges this season is away matches. "Liverpool" plays much slower in them and usually loses. We will find out tomorrow if the "Reds" can get rid of their away complex after the match in London.
Club news
"Chelsea"
J. Mourinho has almost a fully fit squad. The only exception is Arjen Robben. He is recovering from an injury and it is unclear when he will be able to return to the field. It is also uncertain whether Wayne Bridge will be able to play tomorrow, as he has received a minor injury.
"Liverpool"
R. Benitez has much greater problems. Long-term injuries are being treated by defenders Antonio Nunez, Vladimir Smicer, and captain Steven Gerrard. The loss of the latter player is the biggest headache for the Spanish coach.
Predicted lineups:
"Chelsea" (4-4-2): Cech; Ferreira; Carvalho, Terry, Gallas; Tiago, Makelele, Lampard, Duff; Kezman, Drogba.
