The Greek team today parted ways with their Israeli coach Itzhak Schum, who lasted only 15 months in his position. Tonight the club plans to make an official statement and elaborate on the motives of such an agreement between the two parties.
Last season, Schum led "Panathinaikos" to their first champions title in 8 years and secured a place in the group stage of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League. In the Champions League, the "Panathinaikos" team, in which currently the Lithuanian goalkeeper is unable to play due to a severe injury, won the first match, but later lost to the Eindhoven club.
After three matches in the "Alpha Ethniki" league (the Greek championship), "Panathinaikos" is in first place with no losses.
The 56-year-old Schum joined the "Panathinaikos" team in June 2003 from his home team in Haifa. In the 2002/03 season, Schum helped the Haifa team become the first Israeli team to reach the group stage of the Champions League, where they won two games. At that time, Raimondas Žutautas also played in the team.
