The coach of the Spanish national team, Luis Aragones, said on Sunday that the match against Lithuania will be the toughest task for his team in the World Cup qualifying round so far in Group Seven.
On Saturday, the Spaniards defeated the Belgian national team at home after goals from Raul and Alberto Luque, but two red cards significantly contributed to this Spanish victory - the Belgians had to play with ten men from the 28th minute, and later in the last twenty minutes of the match they were forced to compete with only nine players.
This last match revealed some weaknesses in the midfield that Aragones would like to fix. It is believed that instead of Joaquin, Victor and Xabi Alonso could be included in the starting eleven, but the coach did not reveal his plans: "There will be changes in the team, but I still have to decide what they will be. The Lithuanians are very good at counterattacking, which could cause us problems, as it sometimes happened with Mbo Mpenza."
Although Aragones will have to face the upcoming winter and cold weather in Lithuania, he is not concerned: "The cold does not bother me, as I used to play even in minus 20 degrees - I am more concerned about how to overcome a team playing attacking football. I know everything about Lithuania. They are also dangerous because of tall players, as they have footballers who are 185 and 190 cm tall in attack. We need three points, although it will not be easy."
His opinion was supported by A. Luque: "The match against Lithuania will be tougher than against the Belgians, but we will not be discouraged."
"It was important to win against Belgium, but we are already thinking about Wednesday, as another victory would bring us closer to the World Cup," added team captain Raul.
