On Wednesday, eight matches of Groups E-H were played in the UEFA Champions League. Four matches were won by the home teams, three by the away teams, with a total of 24 goals scored.
So in Group E, Arsenal could not defeat the well-playing Greeks when playing away. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. Knowing that in the second round Arsenal played a 1-1 draw away with Rosenborg, this English team still did not secure a spot in the next stage. In other group matches, PSV managed to defeat the Norwegian Rosenborg club 2-1 away.
In Group F, the battle between Milan and Barcelona ended in favor of the Italians in Milan after a single goal from A. Shevchenko in the 31st minute of the match. In another match of this group, Shakhtar Donetsk unexpectedly defeated Celtic club from Glasgow 3-0 at home and earned their first points in the group.
The biggest surprise of the night was in Valencia, where the local team was "overwhelmed" by Milan's Inter club. Although the score was 0-0 after the first half, in the second half five goals were scored against Valencia, and the Spanish team managed to respond with only one accurate shot by P. Aimar. In other group matches, Anderlecht was defeated at home by the German champions, Werder Bremen.
In Group H, both home teams secured victories. Roman Abramovich's Chelsea easily (2-0) defeated CSKA Moscow, and PSG won with the same result against last year's Champions League winners, Porto.
After this round, four teams have practically secured their place in the next stage. These are three Italian and one English team: Juventus, Internazionale, Milan, and Chelsea.
