In the Russian "Premier" league, the 27th round of matches was played. After a great victory with a score of 3:0 against one of its main competitors, the St. Petersburg "Zenit" team, Deividas Šemberas' Moscow "CSKA" is just a step away from their second consecutive championship title.
Although the army team played without their main striker Ivica Olić, already in the 13th minute, "CSKA", thanks to the goal by Russia's national team defender Roland Giggle, managed to take the lead and in the second half, they consolidated their advantage with goals from Zhirkov and Wagner.
This victory allowed "CSKA" to distance themselves by five points from "Zenit" and by three points from Moscow's "Lokomotiv" club, which played a draw with one of the tournament's mid-table teams, Kazan's Rubin club.
Zenit's loss allowed Roberto Poškus' Samara "Krylja Sovietov" and Mantas Samusiovas' Moscow "Torpedo" teams to join the fight for third place, both celebrating victories in this round against "FK Moscow" and Krasnodar's "Kuban" clubs respectively.
Lastly, Vladikavkaz's "Alania" with Nerijus Barasa also celebrated a victory and almost secured their survival in the Premier league.
Moscow's "Dynamo" further complicated their situation in the standings by losing to Moscow's Saturn club. The other two matches between mid-table team "Spartak" and the outsider "Rotor," as well as between the survival contenders "Rostov" and "Amkar," ended in a draw.
