On Sunday, the 26th round matches of the Lithuanian championship took place, during which 16 goals were scored. All three favorites secured victories, while Marijampolė's "Sūduvai" managed to move out of the absolute outsider position.
Coached by Italian strategists, the Marijampolė team at home defeated the "Šilutė" team and pushed "Vilnius" to the last place with 19 points, after losing to Klaipėda's "Atlantas" in a tough battle away.
After these matches, both coastal teams will no longer be able to occupy higher positions - the Klaipėda team secured bronze medals, while the Šilutė team can no longer surpass higher-ranked competitors and will most likely remain sixth. However, theoretically, they still have a chance to give up this position to "Sūduvai".
In other matches in Vilnius, the league leaders easily defeated their opponents: "Ekranas" beat "Vėtra" by three goals, while "Kaunas" showed no mercy to "Žalgiris" and scored five times against them. In the next round, which will be the second to last, Panevėžys and Kaunas will face "Šilutė" and "Vėtra" respectively, while the last matches of the season will see both leaders facing each other.
