Players of the defending champions of Italy, "Milan", defender Jaap Stam and forward Filippo Inzaghi, decided to undergo surgeries to heal the injuries that have been bothering them.
32-year-old J. Stam, who joined "Milan" from Rome's "Lazio" during the summer, has been struggling with an Achilles heel problem for some time now, and on Thursday in Varese, the doctor Paolo Cherubini performed surgery on the player.
J. Stam, who retired from the Dutch national team after Euro 2004, will only be able to return to the squad after two months, although the rehabilitation process may take a month longer.
Meanwhile, Inzaghi will undergo a similar ankle surgery in Antwerp on Monday, marking the second time in six months that he has had to do so - the previous operation was in July.
Due to this injury, the Italian may not be able to play until February, but there is also good news - the club has extended the contract with the 31-year-old forward until 2009.
