The last, 28th round marked the end of the 2004 season of the highest Lithuanian football championship ("A lyga"). For the sixth time in a row, FBK "Kaunas" won the gold medals, defeating the local team "Ekranas" in the decisive match in Panevėžys and defending their champions title.
In a fierce and nerve-racking match that took place in front of a full crowd at the "Aukštaitija" stadium, the victory of the Kaunas team was decided by two goals from Andrius Velička, one of which was scored from the penalty spot.
The results of the other three matches of the final round had no influence on the final standings. Vilnius team "Žalgiris" secured the fourth place and a ticket to the Intertoto Cup after easy victories against "Sūduva". The match in Vilnius where "Vėtra" defeated "Vilnius" had no impact on the final standings, with "Vėtra" remaining in fifth place. Meanwhile, Klaipėda's "Atlantas" achieved a draw in the match against "Šilutė" in a derby without much motivation.
