The whole of Sicily awaited these matches, where two teams that were promoted from the lower league to the first league last summer were supposed to play. Besides the geographical importance, there was also a historical significance - for the first time, both teams competed a hundred years ago.

In the first half, the visitors were more active, but they failed to break through the excellent defense of the hosts, while Illiev's game was particularly dangerous in counterattacks.

After the break, "Messina" came very close to scoring when Coppola lifted the ball and defender Conteh, trying to stop it, almost scored an own goal. However, three minutes later, "Palermo" was unlucky - Toni's shot from 15 meters hit the crossbar.

With seven minutes left, "Messina" responded with a dangerous attack, but Yanagisawa's header bounced off the crossbar. The derby ended in a draw, and "Messina" moved up to sixth place with 16 points, while "Palermo" with 12 points is fifth from the bottom.
