Real Madrid and England national team defender David Beckham has denied rumors that he plans to leave the national team after the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
"I am not planning to retire," said the footballer. "I will play as long as my legs carry me. Every young player dreams of playing for the national team and being its captain. I have been lucky to experience both of these things."
Over the weekend, the newspaper "Daily Star" published Beckham's words that he plans to leave the team. Now, one of the world's most popular footballers claims that he was misunderstood and that he meant that the 2006 World Cup is likely to be his last, but not his final appearance for the national team.
Beckham now aims to achieve a new goal - his 100th appearance for the national team. So far, he has represented the England team 76 times. By the way, only four English footballers have managed to represent their country over a hundred times.
