The decision by FIFA to appoint Englishman Howard Webb as the referee for the World Cup final did not please the Spanish team.

The referee worked in the first match of the Spanish national team in the tournament, in which Vicente Del Bosque's team sensationally lost 0-1 to Switzerland.

"Bad news - Webb will officiate the final," the newspaper "Marca" announces, while AS adds that this choice is "controversial." According to journalists, the Englishman made at least two mistakes in that match: he did not award a penalty kick after a foul on David Silva, and also counted Gelson Fernandes' goal.

"Webb brings unpleasant memories," notes "Mundo Deportivo."

The 39-year-old referee, who also works as a police sergeant, also officiated the final match of this season's UEFA Champions League.
