Dutch national team attacker Dirk Kuyt did not hide his dissatisfaction with referee Howard Webb's decisions after the loss in the final.
It was often difficult for him to control his emotions on the field. It didn't help that he showed yellow cards to 13 different players.
Furthermore, he sent off Dutch defender Johnny Heitinga from the field and did not record a corner kick earned by the Dutch national team, after which the Spanish counterattack ended in a winning goal.
"We are angry because we were very close," said Kuyt. "The referee slightly leaned towards them more than us. In the end, it cost us the trophy."
Meanwhile, Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk acknowledged the superiority of the Spanish national team: "The best team won. But, of course, I am disappointed. It's the World Cup, and we only lost in the final."
