The Spanish football national team returned to Madrid, where they were greeted by a hundred thousand strong crowd of fans.
Possessed fans created an 8 kilometer long corridor for the team traveling in an open bus. Later, the players met with members of the royal family and Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero.
In the afternoon, as the team's plane landed, it was adorned with signs saying "Champions" and "We are proud of our team". Captain Iker Casillas couldn't hold back his tears, not hiding his emotions right after the final match against the Netherlands.
"Thank you, champions, on behalf of all of Spain and the Spaniards," said King Juan Carlos, shaking hands with the players.
