Pellegrini: Madrid's "Real" - incongruous orchestra © EuroFootball.com

Manuel Pellegrini insists that the path to success for the Madrid team is hindered by the mania of buying attacking-style footballers.

Last season, the Chilean coach led the Spanish club and spent 250 million euros at the beginning of the season to sign new footballers, achieving second place in the national championship, but was eventually dismissed from his position.

"They buy the best players, but not the ones needed for specific positions," Pellegrini told "El Mercurio." "It's not good to have an orchestra with ten of the best guitarists if there is no pianist - Real has guitarists, but if asked to play the piano, the result would not be very good."

The Chilean added that the president of the Madrid team sold Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder, even though the coach wanted to see them in his team.

"Players who I considered important were sold," he insisted. "Our opinions with Perez in forming the squad differed.

"We didn't win the Champions League because we didn't have a squad prepared for it."
