The forward of the Spanish national team and Real Madrid, Fernando Morientes, expressed his desire to return to the ranks of last season's Champions League finalists. The Spaniard spent the entire previous season at the French club under a loan agreement but returned to Madrid in the summer.
The 28-year-old forward could have moved to Monaco last summer, but at that time, he decided to stay in Madrid even though he acknowledged that he would have to give way to Raul and Ronaldo in the starting lineup for "Los Galacticos". However, the unexpected purchase of the Englishman Michael Owen pushed the Spaniard further down the pecking order.
"I want to return there (to Monaco)," the footballer told the French sports newspaper "L`Equipe". "The connection between me and the team definitely has not been severed."
"I have only good memories left about Monaco, and personally, I would like to return there again. The sooner, the better."
"I hope that we will soon sit down at the negotiating table and agree on my transfer," the Spaniard said.
It is unofficially stated that Monaco will have to pay up to 12 million euros (about 41.5 million litas) for Morientes, and this could be a major factor preventing the two clubs from reaching an agreement.
Nevertheless, Real president Florentino Perez may ease the conditions for Morientes to move to Monaco, as the forward has been loyal to the royal club for many years.
Morientes is also attracting interest from Liverpool and several Italian clubs. It is worth mentioning that Monaco currently has nine forwards, including Javier Chevanton, Javier Saviola, and Mohammed Kallon.
