Representing the Madrid club for sixteen seasons, Raul said goodbye to the team on Monday.
The 33-year-old veteran, who has become a symbol of the club, has scored 323 goals in 740 matches, but has decided to move to Germany, to the "Schalke" team in Gelsenkirchen, where he will have the chance to get more playing time.
"It's a very difficult day," the Spaniard said. "I am a player and will continue to play, but I will remain faithful to 'Real' and will always be a part of this club."
"I thank everyone who supported me during these years, I will never forget that. Today marks the beginning of a new stage in my career and I am happy about it," the striker said at a press conference, without tears.
"I am always ready to help 'Real'. If I have the opportunity to return, I will definitely take it."
