During today's press conference about his resignation from the head coach position, the team strategist Harris Redknapp announced his decision. Along with him, Portsmouth's assistant head coach Jim Smith is also leaving the team.
Redknapp himself denied that his resignation could have been influenced by the relationship with the newly appointed executive director of the club, Velimir Zajec. By the way, it is V. Zajec who will temporarily take over the coaching position until the club finds a new strategist.
"I've been thinking about it for some time," said Redknapp, who was voted the best Premier League coach of October. "I made the decision without any pressure from the club's director or board members."
The coach's work at this club has been successful. Two years ago, when he took over the club, he managed to turn the team that was playing in the first league into an average Premier League team. Milan Mandarić, the director of Portsmouth, also mentioned Redknapp in thanks for that.
