On Monday, Birmingham's head coach Martin O'Neill unexpectedly resigned from his duties.

The team, which starts the new season of the English Premier League on Saturday with a match against West Ham from London, will be temporarily led by reserve team strategist Kevin MacDonald.

"I enjoyed the time spent here," said the specialist who has been at the helm for four years. "I thank all the players, coaches, managers, and staff who worked with me."

The reasons for the resignation are not disclosed, but this summer Aston Villa has not acquired any new players so far.
