In Spain, reports have emerged that Henri Larsson's longtime club, who recently lost the player, plans to try to bring back the Argentine striker Javier Saviola, who was loaned to last year's Champions League finalists.
It is said that the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, who is experiencing an injury crisis, along with a delegation, traveled to Monaco on Tuesday where the Champions League match between Monaco and Liverpool took place. In that match, Saviola became the hero by scoring the only goal of the game in the 54th minute. Unofficial sources claim that after the match, Saviola had dinner with representatives from Barcelona.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated that Larsson's injury has changed the club's plans during the winter transfer window, and now it is said that the Catalan superclub is trying to bring back the Argentine to avoid major expenses this winter.
When asked about the possibility of the Argentine's return, Laporta denied that it could happen this winter: "I haven't even thought about it. I went to Monaco to fulfill a promise I made to Javier - to see how he plays at his new club."
"We are constantly watching him and we are delighted that he can score crucial goals, like today," Laporta said about Saviola.
The 23-year-old Argentine would most likely want to return to Barcelona, as this summer he did not make much effort for his move to Monaco to happen.
Barcelona's situation is somewhat complicated by the fact that, strangely enough, whether Saviola returns to Barcelona or not largely depends on their main rival, Real Madrid. It is believed that Monaco's head coach, Didier Deschamps, does not want to let go of the South American without having an equivalent substitute, and the most realistic replacement for Saviola is considered to be Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes. The Spanish national team striker recently expressed a desire to move to Monaco, where he performed excellently last season when he was loaned from Real Madrid.
