Strategist Roberto Mancini confirmed that Mario Balotelli will fly to Manchester on Friday, where he will undergo a medical examination.
The 20-year-old footballer will leave Inter Milan and for approximately 28 million euros will join the ranks of an English club.
"We are very close to acquiring Balotelli," said Mancini. "I hope that everything will be resolved today or tomorrow."
The Italian would become the fifth acquisition of Man City this summer after Jerome Boateng, David Silva, Yaya Toure, and Aleksandar Kolarov.
In addition, Birmingham's Aston Villa midfielder James Milner is expected to join the team next week. Around 23 million euros will be paid for him, along with defender Stephen Ireland being sent the other way.
