ne of the owners of a London club, David Sullivan, ordered the striker Benni McCarthy to lose weight, otherwise he faces fines.

The 32-year-old footballer joined the team earlier this year, but was unable to establish himself in the starting lineup. Due to overweight, he also did not make it into the South African national team for the World Cup.

"It's the same as a dancer being overweight. He can't ride a horse and no one will pay him," said Sullivan. "We believe we would be completely justified in not fulfilling our contract under such circumstances."

Currently, McCarthy has been put on a special weight loss program.

"We're not trying to escape reality. We want him to lose about a kilogram per week. He needs to get rid of five or six kilograms," Sullivan added.

"He trains very hard, so he probably eats or drinks something very wrong. We hope that he will reach the appropriate form for a footballer again, because you just don't need to eat ice cream, cakes, and drink wine.
