"Premier League season start - Tottenham and Man City draw 0-0" © EuroFootball.com

The new English Premier League season, promising an intriguing battle, started on Saturday.

The opening match saw two teams not hiding their ambitions to fight for the highest places - London's Tottenham, battling in the Champions League, and Manchester City, who spent over 100 million pounds on new players this summer.

Despite a beautiful battle, the game ended in a goalless 0-0 draw.

In the first half, the hosts dominated, but they failed to beat the impressive performance of Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart. Hart saved his team multiple times from goals, blocking shots from Jermain Defoe, Tom Huddlestone, and others.

Gareth Bale came close to scoring, but his attempt hit the post, and defender cleared Aaron Lennon's shot off the goal line.

After the break, Roberto Mancini's players improved, and in the first minute, they could have taken the lead, but Shaun Wright-Phillips missed a chance.

There were fewer chances in the remaining time, although Bale had a great opportunity in the 84th minute to secure the win for Tottenham, but his shot with his "weaker" right foot was inaccurate.
