In the Spanish press, reports have appeared that the capital club has begun active searches for a right attacking defender.
It is said that "Atletico" is interested in representing Milan's "Inter", whom they already tried to acquire last summer. It is believed that now "Inter" coach Roberto Mancini would agree to release the Dutchman. The Spanish media claims that "Atletico" and "Inter" are negotiating for the possibility of renting the player for the remaining part of the season with the option to buy the player when the contract ends.
The Spanish sports newspaper "Marca" claims that "Atletico" is also interested in Danish national team defender Jesper Gronkjaer, representing "Birmingham", who would be an alternative purchase if they fail to reach an agreement with "Inter" regarding Van der Meyde.
This summer, before signing a contract with "Birmingham", Gronkjaer almost moved to another Spanish club, "Sevilla."
