Mironas Markevičius is stepping down from his position as head coach of the Ukrainian national team and will focus on his work with the "Metalist" club in Kharkiv.

The 59-year-old coach has been juggling both positions since February, but ultimately had to make a choice.

"I was and remain the coach of "Metalist" - I can't betray my club," he said. "My conscience is clear in front of the fans - the national team did not lose a single match."

Markevičius led the team to friendly victories against Lithuania (4-0), Romania (3-2), Norway (1-0), and the Netherlands (1-1).

Temporarily, the national team will be led by Jurij Kalitvinsevas, whose U-19 team became European champions in 2009.
