The 26-year-old Argentine did not hide his desire to leave Liverpool and refused to play in Monday's English Premier League match against Manchester City.
He also did not play in Thursday's Europa League match, and will arrive in Barcelona over the weekend to discuss personal contract terms and undergo a medical examination.
Mascherano joined Liverpool in 2007. Initially, he played on loan from West Ham United in London, but later the contract was made permanent.
