The official website of the team announced that the club has acquired Raul Meireles for 11.5 million pounds sterling.
Meireles' contract with Porto was coming to an end, so the multiple-time champions of Portugal were interested in selling the 27-year-old footballer.
Meireles, who will replace Javier Mascherano who has gone to Barcelona, has passed a medical examination and will sign a four-year contract with the "Reds."
This is likely not the last purchase of the new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson this summer - the club is expected to be further strengthened by the left-back from Fulham, Paul Konchesky.
According to reports, the London West Ham striker Carlton Cole is also on the strategist's target list.
