As expected, the new coach was officially announced today as Philippe Troussier. The former coach of the Japanese national team will replace Jose Anigo, who left the club on Wednesday.

Former French national team coach Jacques Santini, another Frenchman Jean Tigana, former coaches of Germany and Senegal Rudi Voller and Bruno Metsu respectively, as well as Argentine Carlos Bianchi also applied for this position, but the "Marseille" management chose Troussier as the candidate.

"With Pape (Diouf) we made a list of potential candidates, at the top of which were Rudi Voller, Bruno Metsu, Carlos Bianchi and Philippe Troussier," said "Marseille" owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus. "I gave him the right to decide and he chose Philippe. We signed a contract with him until the end of the season with the possibility of extending it."

This week should also reveal who will be the new president of "Marseille." This position, like the coach's position, became vacant on Wednesday when Christophe Bouchet left the club.
