Giggs: young players who have proven nothing earn millions and ruin football © EuroFootball.com

Veteran Ryan Giggs insists that young stars will not be able to break his records, as they are too spoiled.

The 36-year-old veteran, still not thinking about the end of his career, has won all prestigious club trophies.

"Nowadays, many footballers are getting huge amounts of money before proving their worth and talent - I never had that," Giggs said.

"Of course, I earned quite a bit, but when playing for the first team, I got 30 pounds a week. My salary was like an apprentice's. Under another contract, I earned 200 pounds, so the amounts gradually increased. That's how I grew up.

"Nowadays, without proving your abilities, you get huge sums of money and a four or five-year contract - that's why football disappears. Some players manage, some do not."

And he added: "I spent the most successful years of my career in this club and in general, many years. It will be hard to improve on that. I'm not saying it's impossible, but very difficult."
