Francesco Totti denies rumors that he is considering the end of his career.
The 33-year-old footballer, who has been wearing the shirt of the capital club of Italy throughout his career, stated that he would hang up his boots when he "no longer feels like himself."
At various times, Totti has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, but he remained loyal to the Roma team.
"I have never regretted staying in my city and playing for the team I have always supported," Totti told La Repubblica. "It wasn't easy - there are always pros and cons.
"The plus side is that I know everything here like the back of my hand. There is also a negative aspect, as I am always in the spotlight. But I am proud of the choice I made, guided by both reason and heart."
Last November, Totti signed a new five-year contract with Roma, under which he is set to become the club's director after retiring.
"I have never thought about what I will do when I finish my career," the Italian affirmed. "I don't dream about it at night. I still feel like a footballer. The day I realize that I am no longer myself and cannot be on the field, I will immediately step down.
"I don't want to be the one sitting on the bench and playing only 10 matches per season. As soon as I understand that I am no longer Totti, I will leave. Of course, I hope that it will not happen quickly."
