On Tuesday, two unexploded bombs from World War II were found in the newly built "Allianz Arena" stadium in Munich. The opening matches of the 2006 World Cup finals were supposed to take place in this stadium.
Special services reacted promptly and stopped the traffic around the stadium for over an hour, until the bomb disposal experts arrived and safely detonated the bombs.
The "Allianz Arena" stadium has been facing troubles in recent weeks, after last week's arrest of several high-ranking German football officials accused of taking a 2.8 million Euro bribe from a construction company which won the 280 million Euro contract for the stadium.
In 1998, during the reconstruction of Dortmund's "Borussia" stadium, an unexploded bomb weighing almost half a ton was found at the midfield depth, and in 2002, during renovations at the Berlin Olympic stadium, a bomb weighing less than half was found below the stands.
