G.Batistuta to "Barcelona"? © EuroFootball.com

Although it may seem unbelievable, legendary Argentine national team forward Gabriel Omar Batistuta may transfer to the team leading the Spanish championship this winter, according to the Spanish media.

The 35-year-old Argentine currently plays in Qatar and represents the "Al-Arabi" club, but he has confirmed that he has an agreement with his club, according to which the player nicknamed "Batigol" could terminate the contract if any of the most powerful European teams wanted to sign him.

Although a few days ago the talks about Batistuta's possible move seemed like just rumors, yesterday the player confirmed to an Argentine newspaper that he had received an offer from a superclub in Catalonia.

"I have been in contact with Barcelona for a few days," Batistuta said. "I am currently in Argentina, but the length of my vacation will depend on how negotiations with the Catalan club go."

Partially confirming the words of the Argentine player, his agents - Settimio Aloisio and Gustavo Ferreira - met yesterday in Barcelona with the sports director of "Barcelona" Txiki Beguiristain.

Ferreira assured one of the "Barcelona" officials that Batistuta will soon be granted Italian citizenship, which means that he would not occupy a spot reserved for non-EU citizens in the "Barcelona" squad, as the club has already filled those spots.

"Barca" is actively looking for a forward for the remaining part of the season, as Henrik Larsson suffered a serious injury in a match against "Real." Due to this injury, the Swede will not play until the end of the season, and Batistuta could be an excellent short-term solution, especially since he could help "Barca" in the Champions League tournament.
