Ferguson: "Liverpool" problem - not finances © EuroFootball.com

Strategist Sir Alex Ferguson insists that the reason for the unsuccessful game last season is not a difficult financial situation.

Last season, led by Spaniard Rafael Benitez, the 'Reds' finished only 7th in the English championship, so his services were declined.

"I don't know if finishing seventh place, when just before the season they were runners-up, could be related to the financial situation," Ferguson pondered.

"Before Benitez, Liverpool spent a lot of money on new footballers - much more than 'Man Utd'. There were a lot of players in the squad, so I don't think finances could have determined anything."

Two fierce rivals - "Man Utd" and "Liverpool" - will clash tomorrow in Manchester.
