"Milan's strategist Rafael Benitez parted ways with Sir Alex Ferguson, who stated that the unsuccessful Spaniard is to blame for the poor performance of Liverpool.
Having led the English team for six years, Benitez was dismissed in the summer after finishing just 7th in the country's championship.
However, during those six years, he managed to win the FA and Champions League trophies with the 'Reds'.
"I am sincerely surprised that such an experienced and famous coach leading a club says such things," Benitez is quoted as saying in a statement on Inter's website. "Moreover, he talks a lot about me, even though I have been in Italy for three months.
"I can only add that Liverpool fans know and understand everything perfectly well. They also realize that it is easy to judge when you work in one place for 24 years."
