Sir Alex Ferguson did not lead the team in the English League Cup match against "Scunthorpe" on Wednesday. The reason for this is that the specialist went to Spain to watch the game of future Champions League opponents, the "Valencia" team.
It was only the third time since 1986 that the Scottish manager has not been involved in the matches for the 'Red Devils'.
Despite a comfortable 5-2 victory for "Man Utd", Ferguson faced criticism for his decision.
"We highly value the English League Cup competition. We have never underestimated this tournament," defended his assistant Mike Phelan.
"However, it is very important to prepare for the match against the Valencia club and analyze our opponents well before that."
