The coach of the French champions cup Didier Deschamps revealed that in the summer the leaders wanted to see him at the helm of the team.
The English team parted ways with Rafael Benitez in the summer, who is currently coaching Inter Milan, so they were actively looking for a new coach. Eventually, Roy Hodgson, who was at the helm of Fulham in London last season, became the new coach.
"I was honored that a club like Liverpool was interested in me," D. Deschamps said. "But the timing was really bad at that time. I just couldn't leave the team when preparations for the new season were about to start in a few days."
D. Deschamps took over the Marseille team in the spring of 2009.
