Attacker Wayne Rooney will miss three weeks of matches due to an ankle injury, says team coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

Initially, it was announced that the player would only miss the team's Champions League match against Valencia. But now, Ferguson insists that the Englishman will need to rest for at least a few weeks.

"He will be out probably for two to three weeks," the coach said. "It all depends on how his health will be. Wayne used to return to the squad quite quickly, we will see how it goes now."

The attacker will miss Manchester United's matches against Sunderland and W.B.A, and will also not be available for England's matches against Montenegro.

Rooney's moments from last season were much more successful."
