Pepe negotiations with "Real" stall © EuroFootball.com

The negotiations in Madrid with defender Pepe regarding the extension of the contract have stalled, and at least in the near future, they are unlikely to move forward, according to the Spanish media.

The Portuguese national team member wants to earn 5 million euros per season under the new contract, while "Real" offers a significantly "modest" amount of 3.5 million euros.

If an agreement is not reached, Pepe will become a free agent as early as the summer of 2012, even though in 2007, the Spanish club "Porto" paid 30 million euros for him.

Currently, the defender is one of the lowest-paid team football players - his salary is 1.8 million euros.
