Gianluca Zambrotta, a veteran player, was unexpectedly included in the lineup of the Italian national team for the European Championship qualifying matches against Northern Ireland and Serbia.

The 33-year-old defender, who participated in the World Cup this summer, will once again wear the "Azzurri" jersey.

Coach Cesare Prandelli also called up Mario Balotelli and Antonio Cassano to the team.

Italy won both of their first two matches in Group C - against Estonia and the Faroe Islands.
