Coach Arsene Wenger declared that in January he will not try to acquire a new goalkeeper. Rumors have been circulating for some time that the English champions intend to buy a strong goalkeeper, as neither Jens Lehmann nor Manuel Almunia have been playing reliably so far.

In the last three matches, "Arsenal" was defended by M. Almunia, as lately J. Lehmann's sports form has been poor. However, even M. Almunia himself failed to earn the trust of coach A. Wenger and in the weekend match, the German will most likely return to the goal.

"I see no need to acquire a new goalkeeper," said A. Wenger. "Discussions have been ongoing for too long. Everyone has their own opinion and there is nothing more to add for me." Nevertheless, A. Wenger was not inclined to talk about the unreliable play of his goalkeepers.

Lately, it has been rumored that London may be complemented by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Netherlands national team and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, or representing Sebastien Frey.
