During the qualification cycle for the 2012 European Championship, the Lithuanian national team suffered their first defeat, recognizing the superiority of the world champion Spain in an away match.

After keeping the gates dry in the first half of the match, Raimondas Žutautas' disciples conceded three goals in the second half. Darvydas Šernas' equalizer goal was not enough to save the team, and the final whistle announced the 3-1 victory of the titled opponents.
