Over the weekend, the 18th round of matches of the French "Ligue 1" championship took place, after which the gap between the leaders "Lyon" and "Lille" was further reduced.
On Saturday, defending champion "Lyon" failed to beat "Bordeaux", ending the match with a 0-0 draw.
"Lille", in second place, took advantage of the leaders stumbling. They scored two goals in two minutes at home, defeating "Nantes" 2-1 and reducing the gap from "Lyon" to 3 points.
"Monaco" moved up to third place in the tournament after Javier Saviola and Ernesto Chevantono scored 2-0 against "Bastia". Now "Monaco" is 9 points behind the first place.
The central match of the round took place at the Stade Velodrome stadium in Marseille, where "Marseille" hosted "Auxerre". In a tense match, "Auxerre" secured a difficult 1-0 victory.
"Saint-Etienne" team, returning to "Ligue 1" after a long break, won the biggest victory of the round by crushing "Caen" 5-0.
Edgaras Jankauskas' "Nice" convincingly defeated "Ajaccio" 3-0. After an injury, the Lithuanian national team striker played only in the second half, but did not stand out due to lingering leg pain.
The match between "Sochaux" and "P.S.G" scheduled for Saturday evening was postponed to Sunday. "P.S.G" won 2-1. It is worth mentioning that in this match, "P.S.G" players received 6 yellow cards.
