Rooney refuses to negotiate for a new contract with "Man Utd" © EuroFootball.com

Wayne Rooney has rejected the opportunity to extend his contract with the club, according to "Press Association".

The current contract of the 24-year-old footballer will expire in the summer of 2012, and negotiations for its renewal seem to have broken down.

A few days ago, there were reports in the media that Rooney could be sold to Real Madrid in January next year, but a representative of Man Utd called such information "nonsense".

At the beginning of the season, Rooney got entangled in a scandal involving a prostitute. The Englishman's troubles did not end there - due to a decision by coach Sir Alex Ferguson regarding a shin injury, he missed several matches, but speaking to journalists, he stated that he did not understand why he did not play, as he was "healthy" and ready to take to the field.

Amidst the controversy, the forward was not included in the Man Utd squad for the weekend matches of the English championship against West Brom, and Ferguson refused to comment on the situation.
