The general director of Real Madrid, Jorge Valdano, was inclined to reject rumors that in the approaching January they could acquire Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
At the beginning of this season, the English national team striker got involved in a sex scandal with a prostitute. The Englishman's problems did not end there - he got into a dispute with Manchester's coach Sir Alex Ferguson and was not included in the starting lineup for Manchester United's weekend match against West Brom in the English championship.
On Monday, the Press Association announced that Rooney, whose contract is valid until the summer of 2012, refuses to negotiate its extension, and the press keeps talking about a possible transfer to Real Madrid.
However, Valdano calmed the passions: "We have two great strikers - Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo, who last season showed that they can score 60 goals together.
"Moreover, there are Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil who support them. The question arises: who should we bring in if we want another striker?"
And he continued: "We don't discuss that. And let's not forget that Karim Benzema hasn't said his last word on the field yet."
Indeed, Valdano did not rule out the possibility that the team might try to acquire Athletic Bilbao star Fernando Llorente, but also added that at the moment, there might not be a place for him in the lineup.
