The Madrid club has acquired Danish national team and club defender Jesper Gronkjaer for 1.4 million pounds. The 27-year-old footballer will move to the Spanish club in January, when clubs can once again buy and register new players. The Dane will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Atletico has been interested in attracting J. Gronkjaer for several weeks. Things started moving when Birmingham agreed to sell the player who had not established himself in the club. Madrid club's sports director Tonis Munozas stated that the final transfer is awaiting the results of medical examinations and the alignment of personal contract details.
The Dane arrived at Birmingham just five months ago for 3.3 million euros from London.
