The National Football Association Federation FIFA today announced that it has imposed a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs on the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for racist chants by its fans in last month's friendly matches with the England national team.
Black players of the England national team were insulted by Spanish fans both playing for these countries' U-21 teams and during national team matches at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.
FIFA warned RFEF that in case of a similar incident, the Spanish national team would have to play several matches "behind closed doors," meaning in an empty stadium. FIFA also stated that the possibility of removing the team from international tournaments is not ruled out if such attacks recur in the future.
RFEF is currently investigating the behavior of the Spanish national team coach Luis Aragones, who insulted French national team and London striker Thierry Henry by calling him a black player.
