Shearer doubts Capello's work in the England team © EuroFootball.com

One of the most famous English strikers of the last century, Alan Shearer, doubts Fabio Capello's work with the national team.

A defeat against the French team in a friendly match in the middle of the week renewed criticism towards the Italian specialist.

"Fabio has been working for two and a half years, but I'm not sure if during this time we have moved forward," said Shearer, who now works as a BBC pundit and former Newcastle coach.

"If all the footballers were ready to play, I'm not sure if he would know what tactics to choose and who to put on the field."

Shearer emphasized that England falls behind opponents in terms of technique: "We can fight and have enough willpower, but in terms of technique we lag behind other teams.

"Of course, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand could easily play in other teams, but besides them, there aren't many more technical footballers."
