Team coach Sir Alex Ferguson admits that there is no other way but to accept that the team's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will end his career after the season.
The 40-year-old Dutchman's future has been talked about for a long time. The goalkeeper himself hinted more than a month ago that he has not yet made a final decision. However, according to Ferguson, it is unlikely that the goalkeeper will continue playing next year.
"I don't think I have any other choice but to agree that Edwin will end his career after this season," said Ferguson. "We have talked about his future many times, he has laid out his plans."
Van der Sar had a tough time last season as his wife fell seriously ill, and the goalkeeper could not always be by her side due to matches.
Although it is now reported that his wife's health is good enough, the Dutchman is often tormented by homesickness, and his solid age also does not allow him to stay in top form constantly.
